by admin477351

Qatar has reiterated its stance in favor of a two-state solution as the foundation for sustainable peace in the Middle East. Addressing a high-level ministerial meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution during the UN General Assembly in New York, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi, emphasized adherence to international law and relevant United Nations resolutions as essential.

Al Khulaifi advocated for the creation of an independent Palestinian state based on the borders established on June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, existing peacefully alongside Israel. He also urged nations that have yet to recognize Palestine to take that step. Al Khulaifi highlighted concerns that ongoing settlement expansion, land seizures, and settler violence, along with actions impacting religious sites in the West Bank, are jeopardizing the viability of a two-state solution.

The Qatari minister pointed to the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the resulting humanitarian crisis as significant threats to regional stability and efforts toward a political resolution. In collaboration with Egypt, the United States, and Türkiye, Qatar has been actively engaging in diplomatic efforts to support ceasefire and peace initiatives in the region.

Qatar also reaffirmed its commitment to providing humanitarian aid to Palestinians and supporting international efforts aimed at improving conditions in Gaza. The nation stressed its dedication to advancing a long-term political solution in the Middle East.
