Qatar has urged for enhanced global collaboration to advance sustainable development and support the United Nations 2030 Agenda, highlighting the critical challenges faced by developing nations. Speaking at a high-level meeting on the Global Development Initiative held in New York, Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, emphasized the need for international efforts to bridge the development financing gap and increase resources for the least developed countries.

Al Misnad pointed out several pressing issues, including financing and debt pressures, food insecurity, climate change, energy insecurity, and the digital divide, which hinder the progress of developing nations. She emphasized that sustainable and inclusive development is crucial for achieving long-term peace, stability, and prosperity worldwide.

During her address, the Qatari minister highlighted the importance of stronger commitments to development finance, climate action, and reforms in the international financial system to better support developing countries in their efforts to meet the Sustainable Development Goals. She also noted the potential of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in promoting sustainable development but warned of the risks associated with unequal access to technology and expertise, which could exacerbate existing disparities.

Al Misnad called for enhanced cooperation in technology transfer, scientific research, innovation, and the development of digital skills to ensure that all countries can benefit from technological advancements. Qatar reaffirmed its dedication to sustainable development through its National Vision 2030 and its international partnerships, underscoring its initiatives in poverty reduction, education, food security, healthcare, and resilience building in vulnerable countries.
