Qatar recently took part in a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) meeting in Bahrain dedicated to enhancing regional cooperation in social development. The gathering, which included ministers of social affairs and social development from GCC member states, aimed to bolster coordination in social welfare, family support, and community development initiatives.
Represented by Minister of Social Development and Family Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, Qatar engaged in discussions focusing on sharing expertise and developing joint initiatives to tackle social challenges across the region. Key topics included the implementation of existing Gulf-wide decisions and the committee’s work plan for 2026–2030.
Disability rights were prominently discussed, with a focus on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and a proposal for a consistent Gulf forum on disability issues. Another significant agenda item was the impact of artificial intelligence on children’s rights and the implications of emerging technologies. The ministers deliberated on a regional report regarding the rights and future of children across GCC countries, alongside discussions on childhood protection and welfare.
Additionally, the meeting explored strengthening cooperation on women’s issues and considered new initiatives to promote social development throughout the Gulf region. Attendees also reviewed the impact of artificial intelligence on children’s rights and the challenges posed by emerging technologies.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Minister Al Nuaimi participated in a ceremony recognizing prominent individuals and projects in civil social work, where several Qatari figures and initiatives received accolades for their contributions.
