Qatar and Iraq have taken a significant step toward enhancing economic collaboration by forming a joint business council aimed at fostering trade and investment opportunities. The Qatar Chamber hosted a delegation from the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce, led by its President, Amer Khalaf Alawi, to discuss potential avenues for expanding bilateral economic ties.
The meeting underscored approximately 60 investment opportunities linked to Iraq’s ambitious Development Road project, which has an estimated value of $250 billion. These opportunities span a wide range of sectors, including transport and logistics, manufacturing, energy and utilities, mining, oil and gas, agriculture, information technology, real estate, and tourism.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Qatar Chamber and the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce, establishing the Qatar-Iraq Joint Business Council. This council aims to facilitate communication between companies and entrepreneurs in both nations, support joint investment projects, and strengthen cooperation among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
During the discussions, both parties emphasized the potential for increased private-sector partnerships and greater trade between Qatar and Iraq. Businesses were encouraged to explore investment opportunities across various sectors, highlighting the importance of collaboration in driving economic growth.
