Qatar has reaffirmed its commitment to bolstering Lebanon’s sovereignty and economic recovery, focusing on cooperation in energy, electricity, investment, and development projects. This announcement was made by Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, during talks with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.

The discussions highlighted Qatar’s intention to continue supporting Lebanon across crucial sectors such as energy, education, healthcare, and economic development. Sheikh Mohammed reiterated Qatar’s backing for the Lebanese Armed Forces, emphasizing their role in maintaining national security and stability. A significant outcome of the talks was the agreement between QatarEnergy and France’s TotalEnergies to jointly develop a solar power plant, marking a step towards broader energy cooperation between the two nations.

In addition, Lebanon is progressing towards a joint project aimed at rehabilitating and modernizing its electricity infrastructure through a build-operate-transfer model. This arrangement allows the project to advance without requiring upfront investment from Lebanon’s treasury, as noted by Prime Minister Salam. He also praised Qatar’s continued political, economic, and humanitarian assistance, underscoring its role in reconstruction and support for Lebanese state institutions.

Qatar expressed concerns over rising hostilities in Lebanon, condemning Israeli attacks on peacekeeping forces and violations of Lebanese territory. Sheikh Mohammed called for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, advocating for an end to hostilities and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Lebanese areas.

As Qatar continues its efforts, it aims to collaborate with international partners to enhance Lebanon’s security and stability, supporting its long-term recovery. The cooperative efforts in energy, electricity, and investment are expected to fortify the Lebanese economy, aid reconstruction, and facilitate the return of displaced residents to their communities.
